Josh’s Lockdown Log on discovering hobbies through lockdown
Josh’s Lockdown Log
Client Relationship Specialist, Josh discusses his journey throughout lockdown in the UK during this global pandemic that the world is experiencing at this current moment in time. Josh is also a big foodie, enjoying cooking and trying out new restaurants in London!
During the now countless weeks of lockdown, we have had to endure many highs and many lows. We have learnt so much about ourselves, not only as a community, but as individuals as well. I have found this rather tough. It has opened up questions such as: Who am I? How will I work? When will I see me friends and family? What can I do to better myself with the time I have saved? (In no particular order!)
Unfortunately, I can’t answer the first three of those questions for you. Sorry!
What I can help you with is the final question. What can I do to better myself with the time I have saved?
Obviously, this where the H word gets mentioned: HOBBIES.
No, I don’t do 8 hours of yoga or run 10K every day. Now although, I would never condemn these activities (and you certainly should be exercising). My hobby has been cooking!
As someone who frequented at many restaurants and someone who enjoys cooking and experimenting with new recipes, the lockdown period has given me some extra time to learn a few skills in the kitchen.
Many well- known restaurants are sending boxes of fresh produce, with instructions on how to make some of their iconic dishes, as well as divulging the information of their suppliers (Butchers/Fish mongers etc.). This has been a great new experience and has allowed me to continue enjoying my hobby of cooking and eating new foods during times when we can’t visit restaurants.
I have cooked everything from Venison steaks to fresh Lobster (and everything in between). Not only do these meals taste great… (not to toot my own horn!) They come at a fraction of the cost that you might expect to pay at a restaurant. It’s also a great way of helping to support local independent businesses, which to me, is the cherry on top of a beautiful cake.
So my advice to you is to start ordering and cooking something great!
